Wendy Shaft's art journey started after working on Trans Alaskan Pipeline. She realized that her interests were not in line with being a geologist.
After locating to Anchorage, Alaska permenenty, post pipeline contruction, she started to take watercolor painting classes from Marie Shaunessy. As a result of this association she attended two workshops in New Orlean with Edgar A. Whitney . Although Wendy did not pursue watercolor as her main focus she still paints and is influenced by both of their teachings. Below are some Wendy's paintings.
Wendy decided to make her art education seriously. She attended Anchorage Community College and University of Alaska, Anchorage. She discovered printmaking and ceramics. Pat Austin taught printmaking and design and Al Tennnt and Jullie Matthews were influences in her later hand made tile making.
